Stephanie Redfearn participating in a Triathlon! What!!??

Dear Friends and Family,
You may want to sit down before you continue reading, or at least lean against the wall....

Well, I have yet again shocked and surprised myself by joining the Triathlon Team for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America. I am currently in training for the Strawberry Fields Triathlon on March 14, 2004, which will be held in Oxnard, CA and will also be raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Research. What this means is that I will be training to swim .45 miles (in the ocean!), cycle 10 miles and run 3 miles, all in ONE morning! As most of you know exercise was never at the top of my “things to do list” but this is not about me... My hope is to raise $4,200 and do my part to help find a cure for blood related diseases.

Okay, now that you have picked yourself up off the floor... First of all, I would like to welcome you to my little space on the web. I need to tell you that this is my first attempt at a personal website, so please be patient with the presentation.

With that disclaimer out of the way, I want to also thank you for actually taking the time to check out the site and see what this is all about. Most of you know me, but let me introduce myself for those who might have been referred to the site, or stumbled upon it by accident.

My name is Stephanie Redfearn, and I guess you could say that I am going through some type of early mid-life crisis or something. I say this because as you can see I have committed to something that really has me questioning my sanity. In all seriousness though, the commitment that I made is for a great cause, and I truly am excited about embarking on this journey.

Yes, the training will be brutal, as I am sure the event itself will be. However, I honestly can say, the temporary pain that I am, and will be going through does not even come close to the things that someone with this illness endures on a daily basis.

What you should know:

1) Leukemia & its blood-related cancers strike some 107,900 Americans each year and kills 60,500.

2) Leukemia is the #1 cause of death in children between the ages of 1-15.

3) Leukemia research has been the leader for effective treatments of Hodgkin’s disease, lymphomas and other common kinds of cancers, including breast and lung cancer.

Along with my training, I have set a fundraising goal of $4,200. This money will go towards research, patient services and education for leukemia and other blood-related cancers. With the help of good folks like you, our program raised over $73 million dollars last year!

With this said, I not only appreciate your much needed prayers and encouragement for my training, but also your donations (however large or small) to help in the fight for a cure. Please look over this site for more information!

Thanks for visiting my website and feel free to pass the link on to your friends, co-workers and family!

With lots of love & appreciation,
Stephanie
